North Channel Eleven – Innovative Catamaran Design for Comfortable Cruising

BYD-Naval Architects collaborated on the North Channel Eleven project, providing engineering design for the vessel’s exterior geometry and interior layouts. The project also included structural design and engineering, and stability assessments prior to build quotations.

This 11-meter catamaran is tailored for cruising couples or families, offering an ideal platform for bareboat charters in the picturesque yet occasionally challenging waters of Lake Huron’s North Channel.

The vessel features two identical staterooms, each equipped with an ensuite bathroom, ensuring maximum privacy and comfort for two couples. A convertible dinette in the main cabin accommodates additional guests or children. The aft deck, known as the “Muskoka Room,” is enclosed with drop-down windows and full-width sliding doors, all screened to create a serene space for relaxation and enjoying sunsets at anchor.

Designed for ease of operation, the North Channel Eleven includes a large walk-through windscreen for safe access to the foredeck, facilitating anchoring and sunbathing activities. The galley is equipped with modern amenities such as a spacious refrigerator-freezer, on-demand hot water, induction cooktop, microwave-convection oven, and an aft-deck barbecue, providing all the comforts of home.

Powered by twin energy-efficient 140 HP Suzuki outboard engines, the catamaran ensures reliable performance with built-in redundancy. Over 2,000 watts of solar panels mounted on the roof maintain the lithium-ion house batteries, promoting sustainable and off-grid cruising capabilities. For extended periods without sunlight, a 3.5 kW sound-proofed diesel generator offers automatic backup power.

This project exemplifies innovative and efficient solutions in modern marine vessel design, enhancing both functionality and comfort for discerning cruisers.
