Junior Naval Architect – USA
Job Overview
BYD-Naval Architects is seeking a Junior Naval Architect to join our growing Clearwater, Florida office. This position is ideal for an early-career engineer with 0-3 years of experience who is looking to develop technical and project management skills while working on a diverse range of commercial marine projects.
The successful candidate will support vessel design, engineering, surveys, refit programs, fleet modernization studies, and new vessel development projects across North America. Candidates should possess strong CAD skills, a willingness to learn, and an interest in solving practical engineering challenges for vessel owners, operators, and shipyards.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development of vessel design and engineering projects.
- Assist with project scope definition and technical investigations.
- Interpret and apply applicable regulatory requirements, including USCG, ABS, Class Society, and Flag State regulations.
- Perform stability analyses and support the preparation of stability documentation and booklets.
- Assist with structural design and engineering of steel, aluminum, and composite vessels.
- Support marine systems design and integration activities.
- Prepare vessel arrangements, production drawings, and construction documentation.
- Conduct vessel condition assessments, inspections, and field surveys.
- Assist with vessel life-extension studies, refit planning, and modernization projects.
- Support technical report preparation and engineering calculations.
- Participate in onboard surveys and client site visits as required.
- Assist with CFD analysis, vessel performance evaluations, and emerging technology projects following training.
- Support 3D laser scanning and digital vessel capture projects following training.
Duties to the Company
- Deliver quality work in a timely and professional manner.
- Support clients and project teams throughout project execution.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues across our Canada, United States, and United Kingdom offices.
- Contribute to the growth and development of the company.
- Represent BYD-Naval Architects professionally with clients, shipyards, industry organizations, and at industry events.
- Continuously develop technical knowledge and professional skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Architecture or Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering.
- 0-3 years of relevant industry experience.
- Eligibility to work in the United States.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to travel for vessel inspections and project meetings.
